The Best New Year’s Resolution . . .

. . . is for Spiritual Growth.  Boom.  If you resolve to do anything this year, resolve to ask God to give you the grace to make His Son Jesus the center of your life in every way at all times.

Here are a couple comments about the four areas of discipleship we’ve been emphasizing at Goss.

Prayer:

I still think a lot of Christians don’t understand the power and encouragement of corporate prayer.  Otherwise, it would be more of a priority.  Instead of thinking about what prayer won’t do, think about what it WILL do.  It will help shape your thinking.  It will help you grow closer to God.  It will help you trust Him more.  It will encourage your boldness.  Whether private or public, prayer is necessary to the life of any church.

The Word:

It’s not too late to start a “read through the Bible in a year plan.”  It’s not too late to grab a book or commentary and do an in depth study.  It’s never too late to cherish God’s Word more and more.  God’s Word truly transforms our hearts and minds, and I encourage you to memorize, study, and know God’s character revealed in His Word.

Fellowship:

Been lacking in worship and study consistency?  Well, it’s never too late to re-charge your connection to church fellowship.  It’s vital.  Fellowship reminds us that it’s not all about us and our perspective.  I learn much and I’m challenged much by hearing from and spending time with people with varying perspectives and backgrounds.  Church fellowship does this.  Church fellowship is pretty much a must for anyone to grow as a Christian.

Witnessing:

Are you asking God to help you be more bold in sharing your faith in 2012?  I heard a pastor once say that he tried to share Jesus with someone at least once per week.  Wow.  That’s a great goal, but if you’re not used to it, maybe once per month would be a start.

Are you resolved to be more like God in 2013?  I hope so.  Here’s looking with great anticipation to what the Lord will do in our lives, our church, and our community in 2013.

In Christ,

Pastor Kevin
