Famine in Somalia

It is quite shameful what the news stations decide as ‘news’.  This morning on the Today Show, two of the top stories were about Liz Taylor’s jewlery and how Eddie Murphy is going to host the Oscars.

Meanwhile, there is a famine in Somalia in which an estimated 750,000 people could die of starvation.  That is the population of Cleveland, Akron, and Toledo combined.  This is certainly not a feel-good news story, but I believe that we should not ignore painful realities, and we should remember that there are real people behind these news reports.

Among those 750,000 are our Christian brothers and sisters.  Among them are people who do not believe or do not know about Jesus Christ.

If we are honest with ourselves, we are tired of hearing about these situations.  We constantly hear about famines, wars, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, etc.  We feel that there is nothing that we can do to help.

Today I’m asking you to pray, just a small prayer, for those at risk of death from this famine.  Though we are seemingly powerless to change this situation, we can talk to the one who has the power to do the impossible.
