Here is a quote from a book I’ve just started reading:

“While all of God’s creation serves to reveal him in some way, he has willed that the clearest and most authoritative knowledge of him this side of heaven come through his written Word, the Bible.”

It’s no secret that this culture is a battlefield of the mind.  We are drawn by advertisers from across an enormous spectrum to try their product, believe their message, watch their movie, etc.  It’s no wonder that putting our bodies and minds in a place of devoted Bible reading may seem boring in a culture awash with so many seemingly more exciting options for entertainment.

But in contrast, hear (or should I say read) these words from Psalm 119:129-131

Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.  I open my mouth an pant, longing for your commands.

I’ve never heard of anyone going on a mass-market advertising campaign to sell someone on how great the Bible is, but I want to challenge you to stop and think about this today.  How often do we describe the things in our lives – meals, times of fellowship, gifts, experiences – as wonderful.  Shouldn’t God’s very words to us transcend all that?

Hmmm…having fun thinking on that one today.  Be challenged!

In Christ,

Pastor Kevin
